Sustainability
In the Merriam Webster Encyclopaedia, the term sustainable is defined as "relating to, or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged". In practical use, the aim is to implement environmental, economic and social goals equitably; these goals are also called the three pillars of sustainability.
The construction / real estate industry has a significant impact on energy conservation and hence, on the environment, since large amounts of energy and raw materials are consumed for the construction and utilisation of buildings. Sustainable buildings should not only be energy efficient and sustainable, but they should also make living more social, healthier and more comfortable. Sustainable building is advanced decisively by the new European Construction Products Directive and the certification of new federal buildings.
