The invitation to the 1st Architects' Day of the ift Rosenheim

1st Architects' Day Windows + Facades on 23 January 2020 in Berlin

Reading time: 2 minutes

Planning and tendering of suitable building elements for schools and kindergardens

Nationwide, there is a bottleneck and a backlog of schools and kindergartens, which will keep builders, planners and construction companies busy for the next few years. According to new scientific and medical studies, the building envelope has a major influence on learning conditions, especially on acoustics, daylight and air quality. The planning, tendering and execution of windows, facades and doors in these buildings are therefore a challenging task. This is why the Berlin Chamber of Architects, the Beuth University of Applied Sciences, the ift Rosenheim and industry associations are organizing the 1st Architects' Day "A look through windows + facades" on 23 January 2020 at the Beuth University in Berlin. This is free of charge exclusively for architects and is "rewarded" with 6 teaching units from the Berlin Chamber of Architects.

The building industry is once again at the center of social and political discussion, because housing shortages and renovation stagnation, demographic changes and the reduction of CO2 emissions in the building sector are forcing society and politics to act. This is particularly true of school buildings and kindergartens. The building envelope with windows, facades and doors is of great importance because building elements strongly influence energy efficiency, comfort and learning conditions. At the same time, windows and facades are technically sophisticated building products whose complexity will continue to grow through smart homes and automation.

Architects and specialist planners are therefore required to define a good "mix" of the 22 characteristics from the product standard, depending on the requirements of the building project. This is because practical solutions for conflicts of objectives often have to be developed, e.g. between accessibility and performance characteristics such as sound insulation, driving rain tightness or durability. This applies in particular to schools and kindergartens that will have to be renovated or newly built over the next few years. This is because structural requirements, safety aspects or protection against vandalism as well as good learning conditions with sufficient daily light supply and fresh air are of equal importance here.

The 1st Architects' Day on 23 January 2020 at the Beuth University in Berlin will inform architects about current tasks and problem areas that are relevant for new constructions and renovation of schools and kindergartens. These include aspects such as safety of use and durability, daylight and fresh air supply, barrier-free access, influence on comfort and well-being as well as costs for maintenance and service and much more.

The 1st Architects' Day is exclusively for architects and is jointly organized by the Berlin Chamber of Architects, Beuth University, ift Rosenheim and the industry associations Fenster + Fassaden (VFF), Bundesverband Flachglas (BF), Rollladen und Sonnenschutz (RS) and Gebäudehülle (BuVEG). The event is free of charge and is "rewarded" with 6 teaching units of the Berlin Chamber of Architects.
