Research + Development

New and increased requirements as well as innovations in materials and designs should enable a long service life of building products. Research and development are therefore strategic prerequisites for securing a sustainable market position.

Tasks and Mission Statement

Construction products must be constantly adapted to the needs and specifications of a dynamic and increasingly European market. Innovations as well as new requirements and techniques for materials and constructions must also take into account the long service life of building products. Research and development are therefore strategic prerequisites for securing a sustainable market position.

The research projects of ift Rosenheim are application-oriented according to the motto "Solving problems from practice for practice". The research results can be used directly in form of construction recommendations, standards, guidelines or leaflets.

In the case of new research projects, ift Rosenheim can also take over the entire project management, from analysis and application for subsidies from various funds to publication of the results and/or scientific support during market launch.

Research Areas of ift Rosenheim

Public research

Research projects that are financed and/or co-financed by public funding have a public interest and/or an interest of the general public. This includes projects that serve the development of generally usable calculation rules, quality requirements, standards, etc.

Projects that serve the (further) development of methods, products, materials, etc. have a pre-competitive character.

Within the publicly funded research projects, the following main areas are processed at ift Rosenheim:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Sustainability
  • Environment, hygiene, health
  • New materials and designs
  • Accessibility/automation

The participation of industrial partners in the implementation of the research projects ensures practical relevance, and the partners benefit from the knowledge advantage. If experimental investigations are needed within the project, these are carried out on products and/or product solutions of the industrial partners. Furthermore, the project partners benefit from the broad schematic drawing of the project already during the project period through technical publications, lectures or participation in trade fairs.

The broad technical basis of ift Rosenheim, the interaction of scientists, engineers and practitioners as well as the close contact to leading universities and institutes guarantee a solution-oriented processing of the assignments according to the state of the art.

Contract Research

From idea to Innovation: At the beginning of every possible research project there is an idea, which may have already been realized in the form of first prototypes.

Now the questions often arise:

  • Who in the company can develop this idea into a product?
  • How will the project be financed?
  • Is the company's own expertise sufficient or does it have to be bought in?
  • How should the project proceed?
  • What technical properties does the product actually have and how can these be determined and proven?
  • Are there suitable materials and production processes?

Many small and medium-sized enterprises are often overwhelmed with the clarification of these questions. Within the framework of contract research by ift Rosenheim, these open questions should be addressed and solutions offered, according to the project. The following illustration shows a possible project sequence.

In most cases, the step of making the first contact represents the greatest inhibition threshold. However, this conversation is completely non-binding and usually already yields good results. If desired, a non-disclosure agreement can be made before the meeting.

The broad professional basis of ift Rosenheim, the interaction of scientists, engineers and practitioners as well as the close contact to leading universities and institutes guarantee a solution-oriented processing of assignments according to the state of the art.
