Laboratory for Building Physics

The Laboratory for Building Physics is partner of manufacturers and licensers of all types of construction elements. Furthermore, consulting engineers and planners are supported in the determination of thermal and energetic parameters for the object-specific evidence.

The laboratory is equipped with various test facilities (heating box, guarded hot plate, spectrometer, integrating sphere, climatic test rigs) for carrying out standard-compliant tests. Within the flexible accreditation, however, tests can also be carried out for which there is not yet a normative basis, such as the calorimetric determination of the total solar energy transmittance of glazing and the test of dew point performance of single-skin or multi-skin construction elements.

Performance of Laboratory for Building Physics

  • Measurement of thermal characteristics (U-value, R-value, λ-value)

  • Measurement of luminous and solar characteristics (e.g. total solar energy transmittance, light transmittance)

  • Assessment of construction elements under climatic impacts (radiation, temperature and humidity)

The cooperation in national and international standardization committees ensures that the tests carried out always correspond to the current state. This applies both for the verification methods recognized under building law and for tests accompanying development.

Products in Detail

The following products are tested in this laboratory:

  • Construction products such as windows, facades, doors, gates, solar shading devices,

  • Their components such as profiles, roller shutter boxes, insulating glass units, insulating panels, light control and shading systems.
