Rosenheim Window & Facade Conference 9th + 10th October 2024 in Rosenheim

Reading time: 6 minutes

“Sustainable for the future”

The transformation of the economy towards greater sus-tainability and climate resilience offers new opportunities that we as a construction industry should take advantage of, even if current crises may seem more urgent. This task is far more extensive and complex than what we know from the implementation of the CE marking (CPR) – and that has already taken a few years. This is why the motto of this year's Rosenheim Window and Facade Conference is "Sustainable into the future". Director of Insti-tute Prof. Jörn P. Lass will report specifically on how companies can best prepare for these challenges and use the requirements of the "EU Green Claim Directive" and the taxonomy. Marcel Dresse (B+L Marktdaten) reveals the market potential offered by sustainability and climate resilience and Christoph Seehauser (ift) shows the ad-vantages of the rating system "climate.safe.building" for manufacturers. Dr. Norbert Gebbeken (University of the Federal Armed Forces) shows the challenges that disas-ter prevention poses for buildings. There will also be oth-er interesting presentations on standardization and build-ing practice, for example on glass dimensioning accord-ing to DIN 18008, the new version of DIN 18040 (accessi-bility), the new RAL Guideline for installation, the re-quirements of the new Construction Products Regulation (CPR) or what vandalism-resistant building elements have to achieve. The program will be rounded off by the popular Bavarian festive evening on Wednesday with exchange, networking and celebrations.

"Sustainability" – this term is being misused in an almost inflationary manner. In order to stop this abuse, the EU Parliament is currently working on the "Green Claims Directive" to "end the spread of fraudulent green claims that have deceived consumers for far too long", says Cyrus Engerer (rapporteur of the EU Parliament's Environment Committee).

On Wednesday morning, Prof. Jörn P. Lass (ift) will report on requirements and suitable concepts for the window and facade industry. Sustainability has long since ceased to be a "nice-to-have" and has become a market-relevant purchasing criterion – Marcel Dresse (B+L Marktdaten) provides information on this based on current studies. Sustainability expert Christoph Seehauser (ift) shows which "universe" is hidden behind the word sustainability and which details, measures and requirements manufacturers should be aware of. Weather extremes such as heatwaves, heavy rain or hailstorms are the other side of the coin as a result of climate change. Prof. Dr. Norbert Gebbeken (University of the Federal Armed Forces) reports on this and describes disaster prevention as a central task of the construction and real estate industry. Robert Krippahl (ift) shows what this means in concrete terms for windows, facades, doors and gates and which requirements and suitable verifications must be observed.

The second block "Glass" is also about sustainability, as Michael Elstner (BF, Bundesverband Flachglas (Federal Flat Glass Association)) will report on the current status of glass in the circular economy and recycling processes. Carolin Lamprecht (ift) gives tips on practical and building law aspects of using glass in traffic areas for doors and windows and Prof. Dr. Geralt Siebert (University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich) provides information on the "creative" possibilities offered by the revision of DIN 18008 for glass dimensioning.

In order to conclude Wednesday, Mark T. Hofmann (Crime & Intelligence Analyst) will give us an insight into the technical and psychological tricks of cybercrime and how we can protect ourselves and the company with a "human firewall".

On Thursday, four more interesting topics are on the agenda.

After the analysis of a sophisticated facade project from the perspective of the planner, client/investor and executing company inspired the participants in 2023, the "Architecture and Facade" block will now "illuminate" the Deutschlandhaus in Hamburg. The experts on stage will be Dr. Christian Bergmann (Hadi Teherani Architects), Lars Anders (Priedemann Facade Experts) and Mario Häpp (Haga Metallbau).

In the "practical block", Knut Junge (ift ConTec) will focus on the effects of the new DIN 18040 "Construction of accessible buildings". Dr. Joachim Hessinger (ift Rosenheim) shows how windows and shading should be planned in order to achieve optimum energy efficiency with an ideal daylight supply.

In the "Windows" block, Wolfgang Jehl (ift) will provide information on the new contents of the RAL Guideline for installation 2024 and Andreas Schmidt (ift) will present the new ift-Guideline "Vandalism", which describes the requirements for building elements that can withstand vandalism.

In the "Market" block, Dennis Janik (BMWSB) will report on the current status of the new EU Construction Products Regulation and the new requirements to which the window and facade industry must adapt. This will be followed by the popular "Berlin Talk", in which Thomas Drinkuth (RTG, Repräsentanz Transparente Gebäudehülle), Jochen Grönegräs (BF, Bundesverband Flachglas (Federal Flat Glass Association)) and Frank Lange (VFF, German association of window and facade manufacturers) will report on current trends in subsidies, the market and legislation.

Finally, on Thursday afternoon, there will be another highlight when Prof. Christian Niemöller (SMNG Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft) and Prof. Dr. Winfried Heusler (Ingenieurbüro Heusler) analyze the relevant technical and legal aspects that need to be considered in the attractive market of building refurbishment.

There will still be interesting things to see on Thursday afternoon (10.10.2024) during the tour of the ift Laboratories for Building Acoustics and Facades and the Technology Center.

The Rosenheim Window and Facade Conference thus face the challenge of filtering out the aspects that are relevant for decision-makers in the window and facade industry from the flood of information, because there are requirements to be met or opportunities to be exploited.

In addition to the presentations, there will of course be plenty of time and space for dialog with the ift-Experts at the Meeting Point and the right atmosphere for guests to exchange ideas with each other – whether in the congress center or at the popular Bavarian festive evening.

The power workshop for window manufacturers on Tuesday afternoon (08.10.2024, only German language) offers valuable practical tips with an update of the guideline for installation, which contains a lot of information on the challenging installation of floor-to-ceiling elements and fall protection as well as installation in timber constructions. There are also specific recommendations for legally compliant handling of the various European and national verification procedures, the correct planning and implementation of shading in the context of increasing heat waves and the interesting additional business that is possible with the maintenance and cleaning of plastic windows.
