Rosenheim Window and Facade Conference, 12 + 13 October 2022

Reading time: 5 minutes

Entering the new climate era

At present, all companies are struggling daily with material bottlenecks, cost increases and the shortage of skilled workers. A look into the future is nevertheless optimistic, because the energetic refurbishment of the building stock and the great demand for living space will not work without new windows and façades. However, the legal requirements and the "rules of the game" for funding are also changing. The 49th Rosenheim Window and Facade Conference will therefore provide reliable and up-to-date information for strategic planning from 12 to 13 October 2022 - in particular a comprehensive overview of the recycling of window materials and glass, changes to the Building Energy Act (GEG), window market development up to 2025, assessment of the new subsidy rules and legal regulations as well as the influence of emissions trading and digitalisation. This will be optimally supplemented by practical tips on sealing, vacuum insulating glass (VIG), simplifying installation or window replacement. This year, the "little Oktoberfest" on Wednesday evening will once again provide the perfect setting for personal exchange and relaxation after the lectures.

These are definitely turbulent times, because the Ukraine war, problems with the supply of materials and energy, and the shortage of skilled workers are driving up the stress level for all those responsible. Yet the prospects for the future are good, because the planned energy-efficient renovation and the great demand for housing can keep the industry's order books full for years to come. The products are also top, because modern windows, façades and glazing are a key instrument in the fight against climate change. That is why the replacement of old windows is also at the centre of policy.

The 49th Rosenheim Window and Facade Conference provide reliable and up-to-date information for strategic planning as well as valuable tips for operational practice. By popular demand, the conference have been moved to Wednesday and Thursday, as the journey home on Friday, when traffic is heavy, is too stressful for most visitors. The Bavarian evening, appreciated by all participants, will finally take place again after a two-year "Corona break", with beer tapping, hearty Bavarian food and "Oktoberfest flair". There will be interesting things to see on Thursday afternoon during the tour of the new ift laboratories Building Acoustics and Facades and the Technology Centre or in the Rosenheim exhibition "Ice Age – Man.Nature.Climate. ".

The plenary lectures offer a comprehensive overview of the changes in the relevant political, technical and sales framework conditions. The first lecture on Wednesday will be given by Prof. Jörn Peter Lass, Director of the Institute, on "Sustainable Building - Windows, Doors and Facades as part of the Energy and Resource Turnaround". There will also be a well-founded analysis of the window market in Germany and Europe up to 2025 by Martin Langen (B+L Markdaten). On Thursday, Prof. Christian Niemöller (SMNG) will provide information on how to deal with "unavoidable events" in the construction contract, which currently include the incalculable price increases for materials.

The power workshop on Tuesday afternoon (11.10.2022) offers valuable tips on "Simplifying window installation with cost and time savings through digital tools" (Marc Schütt, ö. b. u. v. Sachverständiger im Tischlerhandwerk), the "Installation of safety barrier elements" (Martin Heßler, ift Rosenheim), a practical report on "Energy-efficient renovation with windows from the perspective of an energy consultant" (Dieter Tausch, Ingenieurbüro für Gebäudeenergie und Fenstertechnik) and practical tips for the correct planning, order preparation and installation of profile extensions! (Ingo Leuschner, ift Rosenheim).

On Wednesday, there will be two more content blocks before the Bavarian festive evening starts at 7.30 pm. The block "Circular Economy" deals in detail with the existing recycling possibilities, to help companies to be ready when requirements be demanded by the legislator soon. Michael Vetter (Rewindo GmbH) and Walter Lonsinger (A|U|F e.V.) will provide information on the recycling of windows made of aluminium and PVC, Jochen Grönegräs (Bundesverband Flachglas e.V.) on "Energy-optimised production and comprehensive recycling of flat glass" and Gerald Feigenbutz (QKE e.V.) on the "New guideline for sustainable construction - Design for Recycling Guideline".

The "Building Practice" block will focus on the influence of the Building Energy Act (GEG), waterproofing and vacuum insulated glass (VIG). Dr.-Ing. Stephan Schlitzberger (Ingenieurbüro Prof. Dr. Hauser) will provide information on the "Revision of the GEG - Future Requirements for Glass, Windows and Facades", Wolfgang Jehl (ift Rosenheim) will give an update on the important interface of structural waterproofing and provide information on the current status of the planned code of practice on "Installation of Floor-Deep Elements" and Peter Schober (Holzforschung Austria) and Dr. techn. Ulrich Pont (TU Wien) report on the "Thermal refurbishment of box-type windows with vacuum insulating glass (VIG) - transfer from the laboratory to reality".

On Thursday, four sessions are on the programme. In the "Current Topics" block, Roland Fischer (ift Rosenheim) will report on "Ways to the British conformity mark UKCA" and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Winfried Heusler (Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences, Schüco International) on "Sustainability and digitalisation - opportunities for the window and façade industry".

The "Architecture and Technology" block has a lot of innovative things to offer. Prof. Dr. Jochen Stopper (TH Rosenheim) shows the current status of the Rosenheim Solar Decathlon project and presents innovations in vacuum glass, windows and co. Jürgen Einck (Dress & Sommer) shows in his lecture "The New National Gallery - Technology and Architecture" how monument protection and energy efficiency can be reconciled through modern technology.

The "Climate Protection Challenge" block is then dedicated to the greatest task of our time. Thomas Drinkuth (Representation Transparent Building Envelope) brings the latest information from Berlin and reports on the regulatory and subsidy policy measures with which the government wants to achieve a climate-neutral building stock. Frank Lange (Verband Fenster + Fassade, VFF) will speak on "Climate and resource protection through efficiency - challenges and opportunities for the window and entrance door market".

The "Research" block presents interesting results from R & D projects. Norbert Sack (ift Rosenheim) and Dr. Nicole Krueger (Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics, IBP) provide information on "Surfaces with antimicrobial characteristics - investigations into durability" and Prof. Dr. Benno Eierle (TH Rosenheim) shows how the fastening of safety barrier building elements can best be proven without having to submit extensive tests.

In addition to the lectures, there will of course be enough time, space and the right ambience for guests to exchange ideas with each other or with the ift experts at the popular Meeting Point.
