Creation of

  • Company-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for windows based on average EPDs

  • Average EPDs for all relevant product areas of the building envelope based on the general ift guideline for elaboration of type III environmental product declarations

  • Product-specific/company-specific EPDs for all product areas of the building envelope, if there is no average EPD for a product


We prepare Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for your products, which draw conclusions pertaining to the influence and impact of a product on the environment, such as, for example, on energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) or water consumption. These documents serve primarily as verification for certifying the sustainability of buildings. To support manufacturers of windows, facades, doors and gates etc. with the preparation of product specific EPDs as well, ift Rosenheim, as a so-called Programme Holder, has created its own PCRs for various construction products, which serve as a basis for an EPD. The basis for this are the DIN EN ISO 14025 and prEN 15804 as well as the general guideline compiled by ift Rosenheim for elaboration of type III environmental product declarations (available in German only).

Online solution for expeditious and easy preparation of a draft EPD

The online application of "Draft EPDs" facilitates simple and low-cost preparation of an EPD for aluminium, plastic and wooden windows. In doing so, EPDs are generated automatically based on Draft EPDs by confirming various framework conditions. Data was obtained from various companies for the draft EPDs and this data is used to provide mean values in a common "data pool"; they reflect an industry-wide set of mean values and ensure, thus, that the EPDs are suitable for most manufacturers.

 

Carrying out the Life Cycle Assessment as the basis for an EPD

The Ecological Balance (Life Cycle Assessment) in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14040 and DIN EN ISO 14044 is a significant method for determining the impact of a product on the environment over the entire life cycle (manufacture, utilisation, post-utilisation and recycling).

The data required is collected from manufacturers with the help of questionnaires. In doing so, data about the impact on material and energy is relevant. Finally, the data can be analysed and calculated with the help of software in order to quantify the impact on the environment; such as, for example, the greenhouse potential. These are then the significant statements of an EPD.
