Hail shot machine

Hail shot machine for determining the resistance of exterior wall components to flying hailstones. The test bodies are bombarded with precisely manufactured ice balls with diameters of 10 to 80 mm and a velocity of 15 to 40 m/s.

The hailstones can be fired at the elements from different angles.

Product description

In Germany and neighbouring countries such as Austria and Switzerland, there has been a steady increase in severe hail events. Due to extreme temperature differences and sometimes longer-lasting weather fronts, extreme hailstone formations are increasingly occurring in conjunction with wind loads. Among other things, this also causes major damage to buildings and the installed components. Strong crosswinds can affect all components in the roof as well as the side walls.

Small, low-velocity hailstones often only damage heavily aged bricks or plastic profiles as well as external thermal insulation composite systems with low plaster coverage. Nowadays, however, the components also have to withstand significantly larger hailstones, higher impact velocities and a wide variety of angles of attack. To enable you to develop and test your products for these loads, ift MessTec has developed a suitable hail impact machine. This can shoot all standard grain sizes from 10 to 80 mm in diameter. The impact velocity can be adjusted from 15 to 40 m/s (equivalent to 54 to 144 km/h). The known load cases can be simulated with these parameters.

For windows, doors and façades, both the glazing and the frame material can be tested. The resistance of the attached or integrated shading systems can also be tested for the corresponding load.
